How does Parylene perform in low temperature and vacuum?
1. High temperature performance
According to the data extrapolated by Arrhenius, it is expected that Parylene C will be continuously used in air at 100 ℃ for 10 years. Parylene F4 and F8 have improved high-temperature stability, and F4 can be used continuously at a temperature of 200 ℃; F8 can be used for a long time at 350 ℃. In any case, high temperature will reduce the service life.
2. Low temperature performance
Steel plates coated with Parylene C, cooled in liquid nitrogen at -160 ℃, can withstand impacts exceeding 100 in lb in Gardner drop tests. The room temperature control group had a value of 250 in-lb. Parylene C film (50 μ m) can fail after being bent 180 ° 6 times at -165 ℃. Polyethylene, polyurethane, and polytetrafluoroethylene are used 3 times, 2 times, and 1 time, respectively. When the temperature changes from -271 ℃ to room temperature, it does not affect the electrical and physical properties of the Parylene coating.
3. Vacuum stability
Vacuum tests conducted in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory showed temperatures of 120 ℉ and 10-6torr下,Parylene C的整体质量损失为0.12℅,Parylene N的整体质量损失为0.30℅;挥发可收集物小于0.01℅(测试灵敏度的极限)。
